Veterans Support, Pensions & Advocacy

The Ocean Grove Barwon Heads RSL Wellbeing and Advocacy support services is the core value of our RSL Sub Branch and we are here to offer services to all veterans and their families within the Bellarine region. If in need of crisis services please call 1800 011 046 including after hours through Open Arms.
The Ocean Grove Barwon Heads RSL Sub Branch Wellbeing Support services and veteran support services provide all serving, and ex serving members and dependants with individual assistance to cater for their specific needs .

      1. Do I need to be an RSL member to gain assistance.
      A. No, the Ocean Grove Barwon Heads RSL doesn’t discriminate against non-members
      2. Do I need to have been deployed to get help?
      A. No, the ADF’s definition of a veteran is anyone who has put on a uniform.

     3. Will my assistance become public knowledge?
     A. No, Ocean Grove Barwon Heads RSL complies with the privacy Act and all information is held in            confidence.
    4. What kind of assistance can you offer?
    A. At Ocean Grove Barwon Heads RSL we can assist with financial support i.e. utility bills, advocacy            support, accommodation support, food and fuel vouchers, wellbeing support through a wide                range of government agencies.

Pensions & Advocacy

• Application for service/war widows and disability pensions.
• Review and upgrade of existing pension
• Establish eligibility under the various forms of legislation
• Confirm diagnoses of injuries and/or illnesses
• Examine possibility of injuries and/or illnesses being service-related
• Assist in the preparation & submission of claims
• Track the progress of such claims
• Examine the decision on each claim and advise the veteran on the correctness of it.

Advocacy
• Assessing the potential and options for unsuccessful decisions to be reviewed at the   appropriate level of appeal
• Preparation of submissions on behalf of applicants for the review board.
• Represent applicants throughout the review process
• Review decisions and provide further advice as required.
